We are pleased to invite you to deliver your production Sitaraha (The Stars), as part of Blacktown Art’s Daneha (Seeds) project. Daneha explores the identity and stories of our Afghan community in Blacktown. The project aims to open up critical dialogue locally, nationally and globally, around diaspora, loss, resilience and resettlement, and explores how community regathers and grows new opportunities.
For this visit, we invite Monirah Hashemi (actor, playwright) and Leif Perrson (director). Sitaraha (Stars) forms part of Daneha’s broader arts and cultural program that seeks to engage with the Afghan community in Western Sydney through creative writing workshops, performance, music and visual arts. The Sitaraha five-performance season is slated for 5-9 September 2018, and will close the project.
Developed in close consultation with cultural consultant Maryam Zahid, Daneha has a special focus on empowering Afghan women, providing a radical safe space for expression and creativity through the Afghan Women on the Move initiative. Sitaraha’s intimate exploration of women’s experiences during times of war in Afghanistan offers a powerful means through which to situate local female experiences of the Afghan diaspora through a global context.
